Pre-calculated emissions: Direct Gas Release data requirements (Beta)

Use this guide to prepare your data before uploading to ensure accurate processing.

Updated over a week ago

⚠️ Pre-calculated emissions are only available for beta-users for now. We will notify you when this feature becomes available.

This article explains what data you need to provide when uploading pre-calculated emissions for Direct Gas Release activities.

What activities does Direct Gas Release cover?

The Direct Gas Release activity area includes these specific activities:

  • Release of Direct Emissions from Operations

  • Release of Fugitive Emissions

These activities capture direct greenhouse gas releases from your operations, such as refrigerant leaks, process emissions, flaring, or other intentional and unintentional gas releases.

Required data fields

Basic information (required for all activities)

Facility Name

  • Select the facility where emissions should be allocated

  • Choose from your existing facilities in the platform

Activity Name

  • Select the specific gas release activity:

    • Release of Direct Emissions from Operations: For intentional gas releases from operational processes

    • Release of Fugitive Emissions: For unintentional leaks and fugitive emissions

  • This determines the most appropriate scope category assignment

Calculation Method

  • By default, all emissions would be assigned to Direct Gas Release calculation method

GHG Calculation Method

  • By default, all emissions would be assigned to Average Data Method calculation method

Start Date and End Date

  • Provide the period your emissions cover

  • End date must be after start date

  • Use specific dates for individual incidents or broader periods for ongoing emissions

Input Quantity and Input Unit

  • Enter the activity data quantity (e.g., 15.5, 250)

  • Select the appropriate unit:

    • Weight units: kg, t, lb for gas quantities released

    • Volume units: m³, ft³ for gas volumes

  • This enables complete analysis capabilities in the platform

Emission Quantity (kgCO₂e)

  • Enter your total calculated emissions in kgCO₂e

  • This should account for the global warming potential (GWP) of the specific gases released

Scope Category

  • By default, scope category is assigned to 1.03. Direct & Fugitive Emissions

  • You can change the assignment using a drop-down menu in the template

Emissions Are Estimated

  • Select "Yes" if your emissions are estimated (e.g., using leak detection estimates)

  • Select "No" if they're based on measured gas quantities or detailed calculations

Optional data fields

Emission Description

  • Add descriptions to help with analysis and reporting

  • Examples: "R-404A refrigerant leak", "CO₂ from fermentation process", "Methane from anaerobic digestion"

Record ID

  • Add a unique identifier to link back to your raw data

  • Must be unique across all records if provided

  • Useful for tracking specific incidents or equipment

Supplier Information

  • Supplier Name: Enter any relevant service provider (e.g., refrigeration maintenance company)

  • Supplier Country: Required if supplier name is provided

  • Supplier VAT Number: Optional tax identification number

Adding supplier information can be useful for tracking maintenance-related emissions or service provider responsibilities.
