Viewing your Purchased Electricity in the App

This guide explains how to adjust, use, and analyze Scope 2 Purchased Electricity data in the Altruistiq App.

Updated over 6 months ago

This guide explains how to adjust, view, and analyze your Scope 2 Purchased Electricity data in the Altruistiq App. It assumes you are already familiar with GHG Protocol Scope 2 Purchased Electricity accounting methods: the Market-Based and Location-Based methods.

If you need an introduction on these methods, please refer to this article.

For more information on uploading electricity data and the data requirements, refer to this article.

Selecting and Viewing Your Preferred Accounting Method in the App

You can choose which accounting method (Market-based or Location-based) serves as the default for your emissions data throughout the application. This is done by setting your preferred accounting method. If you need to analyze or view data using both methods, this can be done in Explore Data.

Creating an Organization and Setting the Preferred Accounting Method

When creating an Organization, you'll be prompted to select an accounting method. If you're unsure which to choose, the default and recommended option is the Market-based method. For further questions during the onboarding process, feel free to consult your AQ support team.

Editing an Organization’s Preferred Accounting Method

To update the preferred accounting method, go to your Organization's settings. This action can only be performed by an Admin at the Parent Organization level. Under "Scope 2 Accounting Method," select your new preferred method and click "Save."

Key considerations include:

  • This will affect the accounting method for all underlying business units and facilities.

  • Measurement figures across the app may change.

  • Any targets or initiatives tied to these figures may be impacted.

The app will guide you through several questions to ensure you understand the implications of this change. Your team will be notified of this change upon their next login. The app will fully update at the latest within 24 hours.

This change should not be made lightly or frequently. If you need to quickly view non-preferred accounting data, you can do so in Explore Data.

Historical Market-Based Calculations (Pre-October 2024)

Most users' data in the app is currently based on Location-based accounting, so the default setting has been configured accordingly. If you want to switch to Market-based accounting going forward, you can update your preferred method as described above.

If you have previously calculated Market-based emissions outside of the app, this historical data has been retroactively uploaded. You can view it in Explore Data and, once you toggle the app to Market-based accounting, your overall emissions numbers will reflect the updated data.

If you have never calculated Market-based emissions using Altruistiq, your figures will remain unchanged since Market-based and Location-based emissions would be the same.

Reporting Market-Based and Location-Based Emissions

Explore Data includes a standard dashboard for Scope 2 reporting, providing all the necessary information on your location-based and market-based emissions. This can be found under your Starter Dashboards.

For more in-depth analysis or comparisons between Market-based and Location-based emissions, you can build custom dashboards from the Data Models.
